ZAPATA LESSON

Over the span of three Fridays, my classmates and I taught an art lesson for the eighth graders of Zapata Academy in Chicago.  This was done over a class Google Meets and focused on the concept of grief.  We had the students create collages that represent how they experience and cope with grief. We first went over the understanding of grief and how it is expressed throughout the world.  We them went into mind maps of things that are associated with grief and what the students would add to the chart that is personal to them.

CHIDDIX JUNIOR HIGH OBSERVATION

Over the span of two days, I observed a ESL class at Chiddix Junior High in Normal, IL.  We observed the students through their daily beginning routine of the class and their activity for the day.  The first day we were their they were creating a poster to compare two books they read and defend why one book was better than the other with evidence.  The second day, the students analyzed a photo of a food stand from Pompeii, using contextual clues and using their own words to describe the stand and what it might have been for.

COLOR-BLIND PAMPHLET

For an assignment, I created a pamphlet with information, stats, and helpful resources for teaching color-blind students.  This goes over what it is, what causes color-blindness, how colors look different through their eyes, and some celebrities that are color-blind.
